Default How to~Refill a carbon filter......

Hi folks heres another useful how to for you all to check out...

In this thread I will illustrate how simple it is to refill carbon filters, so they are as good as new...

The Tools you'll need are as follows:
      • Riveting tool and rivets
      • Drill and 4mm bit
      • Sack of activated carbon (in this case 50KG)
      • Soap (To wash your self afterwards as this is messy!!)
First off I will say that this procedure is VERY messy and carbon dust will coat everything in the nearby vacinity with a fine black dust. Wear plastic gloves if possible.

Firstly take your filter and locate where the rivets are; usually at the top where the flange to attach ducting is.

take the drill and the 4mm bit and drill out all the rivets:

You will have to drill them out till all the rivet is out of the hole, then pop the top flange off the filter:

Now get an empty cardboard box and gently tilt the filter up and empty all the old carbon out:

      Heres the empty filter casings:

Now get your bag of activated carbon pellets replace the center cylinder and using a jug pour new carbon inbetween the inner and outer cylinder of the filter:

Once its full up ensure you give the filter a good shake to even it all out all the way down and top up if neccesary:

Now line up the original holes where the rivets were drilled out and replace the top flange plate. Get you rivet tool and rivets; push rivets fat end in, into the holes. Place nose/point of the rivet gun over the rivet and whilst holding it in place pump the rivet tool backward and forth. (See illustartions) until the rivet snaps off. Repeat this for all the holes until the top flange is back in place.

And voila thers your good as new refilled filter ready for another 12-18
      months of stink!

      Hope this thread helps someone..

      Peace chronical
