hey all after pistils told me about the vita-link buddy being changed so i emailed them and asked them the difference and they sent me this and also learnt that i only need to use the buddy at half strenght in coco so will give it a try and see what happens i dont no if it will be any good for any of you but here it is -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VitaLink Buddy has been reformulated and rebranded You may say ‘If it isnt broken, don’t fix it’ but, as with all our products, our research is progressive and it serves everyone’s interest for us to have a continuous improvement policy. The new formulation of VitaLink Buddy has been evaluated over a 3-year period from tests conducted with customers and in our greenhouse. This has been linked in with exhaustive research on the influence of mineral relationships and how these influence the plant to be more vegetative or generative (flowering). The old formulation of Buddy was diluted at 5ml/10L (1:2000) while the new dilution is diluted at 1ml/L (1:1000). With these dilutions, the table below shows the effect this has on the nutrient solution. Old Buddy_______ New Buddy K 20 mg/L________ 50mg/L P 15mg/L_______ 15mg/L Mg N/A _________5mg/L S N/A __________16.5mg/L As you can see, the table shows a marked increase in plant available minerals. You will also see that the overall level of phosphorus has NOT changed. The biggest difference is the overall supply of potassium. Recent developments have shown that an increase in the ratio of potassium to nitrogen greatly influences the generative (flowering) response of the plant. This relationship has consistently shown an increase in yield. The magnesium has been included in the new formula to take into account the higher levels of potassium. Potassium and magnesium are linked in their uptake, if you raise the level of potassium then you need to supplement some magnesium to maintain this relationship. The sulphur levels have also been increased but this is purely to carry the magnesium. The dilution has had to change to reflect this change in the mineral formula. We wanted to keep the dilution the same but due to solubility issues, the product cannot remain at the old dilution. If we made the new improved formula at the old dilution then there would be a large proportion of undissolved solid in the liquid. But what you can see in the table above is that the product has NOT been watered down and even if you used the new Buddy at half strength, the nutrients that are added to the solution are comparable with the old formula. We advise that if you are using VitaLink Buddy in Coco coir that you dose at half the recomended strength. -----------------------------------------------------------------------keep safe sogGood news for coco growers!
