Default Tater Shack -- Hair-brained Methods, Stoned Ramblings, and Lots of Dank

Greetings everyone

So, I have been thinking a lot lately. I have a lot going on in my life, and I have even more about to happen. Come springtime, I'm going to have a little spud to care for, and before this happens I have lots and lots and lots of work to do. (EDIT/UPDATE: We had a little girl )

I have a lot of test grows coming up in the coming months, and I have been pondering new methods of streamlining my test grow process and documenting methods with the sole purpose of focusing more time on the plants and less time on repeating things over and over.

Also, I have been noticing a new trend here on Breedbay. Lots of folks are creating and maintaining general growing threads, and with this, they are deviating away from creating new threads each time a grow starts. I think this is a great way of centralizing information.

Another thing that is happening is that I appear to be someone that folks turn to with questions. I truely enjoy helping when I am able, and I try to take the time to respond to PMs as best as I can. I get a lot of very good questions from new growers, and I have noticed that I am sometimes repeating answers that I have previously given in other PMs to other folks. I end up with a full PM box that I have to delete occasionaly to make room for new PMs. I recently tried to find a PM that I had written to someone who had asked me a question as I had someone new asking me the same thing. I discovered that I had deleted the previous response PM which meant I had to type the answer over again.

And finally, I'm getting old, hehe. If you could see my desk, you would see, besides the organized mess, tons of quick reference sheets and things organized in folders. I do this so I can minimize the amount of time I spend at work doing things which are repeated.

So, here is my idea. I am going to attempt to create a thread, this thread, which will contain:
1. Aspects of my growing style that are the same each grow. I would like to establish these as my own 'methods' so that when I am doing a test grow, I can simply link my test grow thread to a part of this thread rather than repeat the same steps over and over again in successive test grow threads (example: seed germination). Also, this will allow me to more closely examine these repeatable things. I am a scientist at heart, so hopefully this will allow me to tweak and fine tune my own methods. I will be able to, in one central place, relate the things that worked, the things that didn't, products I like, products I don't like, and other ideas I am having about it. This is going to mean that this part of the thread, especially this part, will be editied often and modified with the purpose of improving my own methods. Plus this will ensure that folks are getting my most current information rather than looking at an older thread of mine and doing something I used to do but don't anymore (if that makes any sense).

2. My own FAQ. I realize this site has a FAQ, but let's face it folks....not everybody reads it when they have questions. I don't even look at the FAQ to direct someone to the right answer sometimes, and I just end up answering the question. I'm not saying this is right on my part, but I have to recognize my own behaviour. I enjoy answering questions, hehe, especially when I know the answer. Sometimes folks ask me questions via PM, and sometimes I am asked questions in threads. I would like to have a section in this thread that, to me, summarizies relevant Q's and A's. This will become a useful section of this thread hopefully, and it too will be editied to add and improve content. Also, this thread will be a great place for folks to post questions

3. Important Breedbay links and links to my Breedbay grow threads. I read and learn new things here all the time. I am getting to the point where I am forgetting things (again, I'm getting old, hehe). So, I have quick reference sheets and post-it notes on my desk, right? Well, I'm going to create a section in this thread that contains links to my grow threads and other links that I have felt were informative and worthy of remembering.

4. Library of strains and information. Because of the generosity of folks here at Breedbay, I am beginning to develop a nice collection of seeds and motherplants. I think it would be very handy for me to have sections in this thread with my own personal notes about some of my motherplants and their growth characteristics. Plus, this will be a cool way of displaying some cool pictures of dank, hehe.

5. Everything else. Who knows. Sometimes I have my own questions I am pondering. Maybe this will be a good spot to do a little whiteboard brainstorming from time to time.
So let's talk a little about the "E" word. Editing. If you knew me, and you knew what I did, you would understand that above all else, this word has everything to do with honesty and correctness and little to do with ego and cover-ups. I admit here and now that I don't know everything. I don't know a billionth of what is out there when it comes to cannabis, and I make lots of mistakes. Shit, folks, this is what it is all about for me. You don't learn by reading faq's, typing messages, and dreaming about weed. You learn how to grow the best pot by getting your GD hands dirty, messing up a lot, humbling yourself and asking questions. I am still learning. I will always be learning. I choose to put what I have learned out there for viewing because I know it might help someone else even though some of it may be wrong. My goal with everything in life is to not be afraid to learn, and with this, comes admiting I have been wrong. So, if you see my seed germination "method" has been editied, that means that I used to do something differently until I figured out how to do it better. If I mess up or discover I have been doing something wrong, then guess what, that shit is as important as any fact. I have always learned more from my mistakes than my successes, and this thread will have plenty of documentation of my mistakes when it is all said and done.

Alright, so that is my concept. I hope this will be well recieved. I invite input and constructive ideas.
