36 hours of dark period before flipping the timer to 12/12?

i was having a conversation about switching the timer over to 12/12 & the topic of a dark period came up. anyone ever heard of using a 24-36 hour dark period before flowering. normally i just flip the timer & call it a day but i was wondering what you folks know about that?
