Default Window AC Overhaul & Mold Solution

Upon inspection of my window AC unit I noticed a considerable amount of mold had built up. It came down to a decision to either replace the unit or repair it and I chose to repair it as it is a $500 unit. I am so glad I overhauled it as the end results were sweet and it runs ultra smooth now and quiter and is better than it ever was and it is even more efficiant. It was a complete overhaul and took roughly 6-8 hours. all the internal parts were cleaned to brand new condition and coated with pharmeceutical grade tea tree oil for a complete mold solution and if I ever buy a new ac unit I will take it apart and coat it with a thin layer of tea tree oil. this 1st pic show how bad the mold really was internally.

STEP 1; was to remove the unit from its outer casing. Most AC units have a few screws that will allow you to take the unit out of its housing and leave the housing hard mounted in the window. when you get the unit out get it out where it can be cleaned with a hose and bleach and disassembled.

taking photos as you go along will help with the re-assembly. the important thing is to remember to be extremely careful with all parts and lines. lines are very delicate and very easy to puncture and if 1 single part breaks you are so screwed so take your time and be very precise. I completey disassembled every single piece.

look at all that mold. completely nasty inside.

the unit was completely stripped bare and the condensors electrical and pump were all kept in tact and handled very carefully. the condensors and base were first washed with a hose w pressure nozzle then sprayed with 25% bleach and sprayed again and bleached and cleaned meticulously with a brush and hosed off and dried then gone over with a tea tree mould cleaner (Hygienicaire). Tea tree is miraculous stuff and is making a breakthrough in new construction and mold clean up industry alike. You will find it in many comercial applications where clean mold free air is a must. after the parts were cleaned to a like new condition and the mold was killed the tea tree oil was sprayed in a fine mist to completely coat all the internal parts.

every individual piece was taken apart and cleaned to a brand new condition with bleach and hot water and a paint brush. then it was dried and cleaned with tea tree oil and then it was sprayed with a fine mist of tea tree oil.(hygienicaire tea tree oil).

what a moldy mess it was too. Glad to see that go
